Amazon to Invest $20 Billion in Pennsylvania in what’s shaping up to be a game-changing move for the state’s economy and tech industry. The company is planning a major expansion of its cloud infrastructure, with large-scale data center campuses set to rise across the state. These new facilities will help power everything from artificial intelligence to the growing demand for cloud-based services. It’s a bold step that shows Amazon’s commitment to future technologies—and to creating real, lasting opportunities in Pennsylvania.
The new “innovation campuses” will be built in Salem Township, near Pittsburgh, and Falls Township, outside Philadelphia. These sites are just the beginning of what Amazon hints could be an even larger presence in the region, as the company explores more locations across the state.

Amazon to Invest $20 Billion in a Big Boost for Jobs and Local Communities
This isn’t just about technology—it’s about people and jobs, too. Amazon says its investment will lead to at least 1,250 new full-time positions, with roles ranging from data center engineers and network technicians to cybersecurity specialists and operations managers. And beyond that, thousands more jobs will be supported in areas like construction, logistics, maintenance, and other industries that help bring it all together.
“This is about more than infrastructure,” said David Zapolsky, Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer. “It’s about helping communities thrive. We’re investing in Pennsylvania because we believe in its potential—not just to support AI and cloud innovation, but to build lasting economic opportunity.”
Amazon also plans to roll out workforce development programs and fund local community initiatives around the new campuses.
Part of a Bigger Nationwide Expansion
Pennsylvania isn’t the only place Amazon is expanding. Just last week, the company announced a $10 billion investment in North Carolina, adding 500 new jobs there. And back in May, it revealed a $5 billion AWS expansion in Taiwan, showing just how global and fast-moving Amazon’s infrastructure strategy has become.
The company spent $25 billion on infrastructure in the first quarter of 2025 alone—and expects to stay on that pace for the rest of the year.
Why This Matters
Amazon’s decision to put down roots in both western and eastern Pennsylvania is a major shift. It’s not just about expanding capacity for AWS—it’s about spreading tech investment beyond traditional hubs like Silicon Valley or Northern Virginia.
As generative AI tools become more mainstream, the need for powerful, scalable cloud infrastructure is skyrocketing. With these new campuses, Amazon is preparing for that future—and helping Pennsylvania grow into a key player in the next generation of tech.
This is one of the largest private tech investments in Pennsylvania’s history, and it’s likely to be just the start.
